Greeting Card Caption: Although large birds with a wingspan of 5-1/2 feet, ospreys only weigh about 3 pounds. Females (pictured on nest) are slightly larger than males and are often distinguishable by a "necklace" of dark feathers on their upper breast.

Ospreys are extremely effective hunters and may be successful at catching fish 4 out of 5 attempts. However, they can only catch fish swimming within 3 feet of the water's surface.
