Horned Puffin Photo (ID: 237)
Print Title: Horned Puffins (Fratercula corniculata)
Greeting Card Caption: Puffins are probably the most easily recognized and most popular Alaska seabirds, because of their large colorful beaks and comical looks. They reach breeding maturity at 3-4 years of age and nest in underground burrows, or on rocky slopes and cliff faces if soil is scarce or nonexistent. Puffins lay only a single egg, and juveniles remain on the open sea during their first year.
