John Tobin Photography

John Tobin has expressed his fascination with nature on film for more than twenty years. His respect for the natural world grew from values passed down over generations and is enriched by childhood experiences among the woods and waters of Virginia. Through a desire to discover more about things wild, he was drawn to a career in biology and eventually to Alaska, fulfilling a lifelong dream.

John eventually picked up a camera as a means of sharing the magic he found. Transcendent experiences in the landscape, opportunities to observe unique animal behaviors, and the reward of art on film ultimately lured John away from a thirteen-year career in salmon biology.

Currently a full-time professional photographer, John invests countless hours in pursuit of unique images and experiences. His work has been published internationally in magazines, books, calendars, brochures, advertisements, films and more. Major clients include National Geographic, Kodak, Tiffen, and various ad agencies.
